When I see the Ten Most Wanted Lists… I always have this thought: If we’d made them feel wanted earlier, they wouldn’t be wanted now. ~Eddie Cantor, comedian, 20th century
Houston criminal defense trial attorney Jim Sullivan has represented a number of men on local and state most wanted lists. He once represented a local gang leader of MS-13 who was arrested in Austin on felony aggravated assault charges in Harris county. The man was accused of shooting a fellow gang member after a night of heavy drinking. On the second court setting, Sullivan persuaded the prosecutor that his client was not the shooter and the charges were dismissed.
Sullivan agrees with Eddie Cantor that many criminals on the Most Wanted Lists would probably not be there if they had felt wanted earlier. Many dangerous felons suffered horrific abuse and neglect as children. Their terrible early developmental years molded them and set the stage for their later criminal history.
